Men moccasins

Did you know that the loafer is the oldest shoe style in the world? The oldest discovered shoe, dating back over 5,000 years, took the form of a primitive moccasin! Over the centuries, this style has evolved while preserving its essence. Today, the loafer is not just a historical legacy; it is a true icon of timeless style. In Corio perpetuates this tradition with models designed to fit perfectly into your modern wardrobe.

A unique and timeless heritage

There are different types of loafers, and the common thread among them is a low-cut shoe with a raised lip (distinguishing it from a slipper), lacking laces, and featuring decorative elements on the upper such as tassel loafers, fringes, or the classic strap. Loafers from the French brand In Corio are mostly Penny Loafers. Their design is unique, inspired by a legendary 1920s American silhouette, refined with a modern touch to ensure an unparalleled quality and a subtle elegance.

The balance of sophistication and relaxation

In absolute comfort, our men's loafers embody the delicate balance between chic and casual. Whether for a professional meeting or a night out with friends, the loafer adapts to every situation. In leather or suede, they bring a touch of studied nonchalance to your outfits. Their versatility is what makes them unique: pair them with chinos, denim, or even a suit for a polished yet relaxed look.

How to choose your loafers

Opt for the black or brown leather penny loafer for your formal ensembles. These classic shades pair perfectly with suits or dress trousers. For a more casual style, suede loafers are an excellent choice, especially in lighter brown or beige tones. Each choice reflects your personality and enhances your wardrobe with a refined finishing touch.

Lightweight comfort for every season

Our men's loafers are designed for lightweight wear year-round. In winter, their robust materials ensure optimal comfort. And when the temperature rises? Try our unlined leather summer models, perfect for going barefoot from the city to the water's edge. This type of loafer offers an incomparable feeling of lightness while maintaining a sharp appearance. Regardless of the season, every step will be a genuine pleasure.

Choosing moccasins means choosing a shoe you will wear from Monday to Sunday, at the office as well as at the weekend. The only thing left is to find your way between penny loafers and tassel loafers, leather or rubber soles, smooth leather or suede. Here is what our craft as shoemakers has taught us, model by model.

What is a men's moccasin?

A men's moccasin is a low men's dress shoe with no laces or buckle, which slips on directly thanks to an open instep and a strap stitched across the top of the foot.

From the Norwegian shoe to the penny loafer

The dress moccasin as we know it owes a great deal to a Norwegian cobbler, Nils Gregoriusson Tveranger. According to the most widespread explanation, American students in the 1950s slipped a one-cent coin into the slot of the strap: the penny loafer moccasin takes its name from this little ritual.

Penny loafer or tassel loafer: which model should you choose?

The choice between a penny loafer and a tassel loafer depends above all on the level of elegance you are after: the penny loafer stays understated and suits almost any outfit, the tassel loafer makes more of a style statement and finds its place in dressier outfits.

The penny loafer, the most versatile line

Its distinctive feature is the leather strap stitched across the vamp, with a half-moon cut-out. Our Paul moccasin in chocolate leather offers the cleanest interpretation: marked curves, full-grain calf leather and a leather sole.

The tassel loafer, for dressier outfits

The tassel loafer, also called a tassel moccasin, features two small leather tassels tied onto a decorative lace. On Adrien, these tassels are made by hand.

Smooth leather, grained leather or suede: which material should you choose?

The material is chosen according to use: smooth leather for formal outfits, grained leather for everyday town wear, suede for a more relaxed style. In all three cases, we select hides from tanneries certified by the Leather Working Group.

Full-grain calf leather, for the office and ceremonies

Full-grain leather keeps the original surface of the hide, with no sanding.

Suede and velour calf leather, softness and warmth

Italian suede is a velvety leather of great softness, which wraps the foot from the very first hour. A soft-leather moccasin like this one is worn with raw denim jeans, chinos or linen trousers, and is one of the men's shoes to wear in summer.

Why are our moccasins comfortable from day one?

The comfort of a moccasin rests on three elements: a last that follows the shape of the foot, a flexible construction and cushioning under the sole of the foot.

Blake stitched construction, for flexibility

In Blake construction, a single stitch runs through the insole and the outsole.

High-density latex cushioning

Between the leather insole and the outsole, we add a layer of high-density latex. It absorbs the impact of the heel and distributes your body weight between the heel, the arch and the ball of the foot.

Our moccasins are made in family-run workshops in the Porto region, the cradle of shoemaking in Portugal. By selling directly, without intermediaries, we offer this level of craftsmanship at a fair price: an accessible luxury, designed to last.

How to wear and care for your moccasins?

A moccasin can be worn just as well with a suit as with jeans, provided the material suits the rest of the outfit.

From suit to jeans

With a grey or navy suit, a penny loafer in black or chocolate leather remains the safe choice. For more ideas on how to put outfits together, our article how to choose and wear men's loafers goes through everyday outfits.

The care ritual

A beautiful object lasts longer with the care you give it. Here is the ritual we suggest:

1. Slip cedar shoe trees into your moccasins as soon as you take them off: cedar absorbs moisture and keeps the shape of the shoe.
2. Dust smooth leather with a brush, then nourish it with a nourishing cream every few weeks.
3. Brush suede dry with a brass brush to lift the nap, and revive its colour with a suitable renovator.

Frequently asked questions about men's moccasins

What are the best moccasins for men?

The best moccasins meet four criteria: quality full-grain leather or suede, a stitched sole, and therefore a repairable one, a last that holds the heel and cushioning under the sole of the foot.

How much does a quality leather moccasin cost?

A stitched full-grain leather moccasin most often costs between 250 and 500 euros; beyond that, you are mostly paying for the reputation of a label. Our penny loafers and tassel loafers are offered between 219 euros and 329 euros, a fair price made possible by selling without intermediaries.

Is the moccasin a timeless choice?

Yes, the moccasin is the oldest known shoe in the history of humankind. And the penny loafer has existed for nearly a century and has never left the male wardrobe.

In summary

The penny loafer is the most versatile moccasin, the tassel loafer the dressiest. Smooth leather suits formal outfits, grained leather everyday wear, suede relaxed outfits. With an ergonomic last, Blake construction and latex cushioning, our moccasins are comfortable to wear from the first day.
