Men’s suede loafers: relaxed elegance at its finest
Men’s suede loafers perfectly embody the balance between comfort and refinement. Highly prized for their laid-back style and adaptability, this iconic model has become a staple in any man’s wardrobe, whatever the season. Discover why these shoes deserve a prime spot in your collection and how In Corio is reinventing the men's suede loafer to meet all your expectations.
Why choose a suede loafer?
Suede is renowned for its softness and velvety finish, immediately lending the shoe a sense of relaxed elegance. Contrary to popular belief, quality suede loafers offer remarkable resistance and durability. At In Corio, our suede models are crafted from premium calf suede sourced from the finest English and Italian tanneries, ensuring suppleness, breathability, and instant comfort from the first step.
The advantages of In Corio loafers
Our models don’t just captivate with their looks; they’re designed to be worn all day, whether in the city or on the go. Discover our flagship references:
- - Paul: The Paul loafer embodies relaxed elegance. Easy to slip on and flexible to wear, this brown suede penny loafer stands out with its defined lines and pairs effortlessly with chinos, jeans, or flannel trousers.
- - Antoine: Designed to feel like a “second skin,” Antoine is made from ultra-supple Italian suede. Perfect for summer, its non-slip rubber outsole makes it ideal for wearing barefoot with lightweight trousers or shorts.
- - Étienne: A classic penny loafer reimagined in brown suede. Its comfort is enhanced by an ergonomic midsole, making it versatile enough to adapt to various outfits—from casual denim to a formal suit.
How to wear your suede loafers
For the office: Pair them with gray flannel trousers and a light-colored shirt for an outfit that combines elegance and simplicity. For a casual outing: Slip on raw jeans and a lightweight sweater; suede loafers add a sophisticated touch to this relaxed ensemble. In summer: Wear them barefoot with beige chinos or linen shorts for a look that’s both refined and laid-back.
Easy, long-lasting care
Contrary to common myths, suede is durable. A simple brush is enough to remove dust and maintain the velvety texture. We strongly recommend using cedar shoe trees after each wear to preserve their shape and absorb moisture, ensuring your loafers remain in perfect condition for many seasons.
Choose timeless elegance
The men’s suede loafers offered by In Corio combine artisanal quality, comfort, and timeless style. Add a pair to your wardrobe and let them accompany you everywhere with distinction and ease.
The suede moccasin has the reputation of a fragile shoe, kept for sunny days. Well chosen and well cared for, it can nevertheless be worn all year round. Here is what we know about this velvety leather, from its history to its care, to help you choose your pair.
Why choose a suede moccasin for men?
A suede moccasin offers the softness of a slipper and the look of a town shoe: it suits the man looking to choose moccasins for the weekend, relaxed office outfits and sunny days. Among our men's moccasins, it is the most comfortable material from the very first wear.
Suede, velvet calf, nubuck: what are we talking about?
In the shoemaker's vocabulary, the word suede most often means a velvet leather, that is, a hide worked on the flesh side and then sanded to raise an even nap. This leather generally comes from calf, hence the name velvet calf. Nubuck, by contrast, is sanded on the grain side: its feel is shorter, almost peach-skin.
A leather long kept for the countryside
At the beginning of the 20th century, the brown suede shoe remained in England a country shoe, not worn in town with a suit. The Prince of Wales, the future Edward VIII, broke this rule by wearing brown suede shoes with his town suits.
Which suede moccasin should you choose?
The choice depends on the style of moccasin and the sole: penny loafer or tassel moccasin for the design, a leather sole for slimness, a rubber sole for town in all weathers. Our four brown suede models cover these uses.
| Model | Style | Sole | Strong point | For which occasions | Price |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Antoine | Ultra-soft penny loafer | Rubber | Formidable comfort | The warm season, from the office to the waterside | €219 |
| Paul | Penny loafer with pronounced curves | Leather | The slimmest line | Chinos, flannel, relaxed office | €319 |
| Étienne | Penny loafer | Rubber | Grip on wet cobblestones | Everyday town wear, jeans | €329 |
| Adrien | Tassel moccasin | Leather | Handmade tassels | Dinner, summer wedding, weekend | €319 |
Leather sole or rubber sole?
The leather sole, thin and breathable, keeps an elegant line on the suede moccasin; it suits office outfits and evenings out. The rubber sole insulates better from the ground, grips on wet cobblestones and extends the suede season into autumn and winter.
How to wear suede moccasins?
A suede moccasin is worn with natural materials and casual or smart-casual outfits: jeans, chinos, linen, flannel, knitwear.
With which colours?
Brown suede goes with navy, beige, white, ecru, olive green and light grey. Raw denim jeans, a white oxford shirt and a navy jumper make the safest combination.
With or without socks?
The suede moccasin is probably the shoe most readily worn barefoot, thanks to its suppleness and its leather insole. An invisible sock gives the same effect while protecting the leather from perspiration.
How to care for a suede moccasin?
A suede moccasin is cared for dry, with a suitable brush and a renovator, never with a greasy cream. Here is the routine we suggest:
- Slip cedar shoe trees into your moccasins as soon as you take them off, to absorb moisture and keep their shape.
- Brush the suede dry, in one direction then the other, with a brass brush: it removes dust and raises the nap.
- Spray our suede renovator from about fifteen centimetres, then leave to dry for a quarter of an hour: colourless, it revives all shades.
What to do about a stain?
A water stain is treated by lightly dampening the whole surface, then leaving the pair to dry in the open air, away from a radiator, before brushing. A greasy stain takes more patience: our article on how to clean suede shoes details the steps, stain by stain.
Finding the right size
At In Corio, the fit is identical across all our models: take your usual size and, if you are between two sizes, choose the larger. Our leathers come from tanneries certified by the Leather Working Group.
Not sure about your size? Come and try our models and feel our leathers in our shops in the Marais, Saint-Germain-des-Prés or Lyon. Online, returns and exchanges are free.
Frequently asked questions about men's suede moccasins
Leather or suede moccasin: which should you choose?
Smooth leather suits formal outfits and dark suits, suede casual and smart-casual outfits. For a first versatile pair, smooth leather remains the safest; for a second pair intended for weekends and sunny days, brown suede is the ideal complement.
Can you wear suede moccasins in the rain?
A passing shower will not damage them, especially with a water-repellent suede like ours, on which water beads instead of soaking in. After a damp day, leave the pair to dry in the open air with shoe trees, then brush it.
How to recognise a quality suede moccasin?
Good suede has an even, dense nap, which changes shade when brushed in one direction then the other. The shoe is best mounted on a stitched sole, with a leather insole.
In summary
The suede moccasin is the softest and warmest of men's moccasins. Paul on a leather sole for slimness, Étienne on a rubber sole for town, Adrien with tassels for occasions: all three can be worn from spring to winter. A brass brush, a renovator and shoe trees are enough to keep them looking good.
